L-Cystine is a sulfur-containing non-essential amino acid that is present in small amounts in proteins and is contained in keratin such as hair and fingers. White hexagonal plate crystal or crystalline powder. Odorless, tasteless. Soluble in dilute acid and alkaline solution, very slightly soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, and chloroform.
